Scholastic Book Fair Takeover
Children in Reception follow a different curriculum to the rest of the school – they follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, covering seven areas of learning in total.
The EYFS curriculum has three prime areas of learning:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
There are also four specific areas of learning:
Literacy development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write.
Maths provides children with opportunities to develop and improve counting, using numbers, simple addition and subtraction and to describe shapes, spaces and measures.
Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and community and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Expressive arts and design includes enabling children to share thoughts and feelings through art, music, movement, role play, design and technology.
These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities
For details of how we will cover these areas, please see our Foundation Stage newsletter.
EYFS visit from Aquatic Finatic January 2019
As part of our topic on "Who would you find in Percy's park?" EYFS had a visit from Aquatic Finatic. We enjoyed seeing all the different animals and birds Jack brought along to show us. We learned lots of different facts about these creatures. Mrs Hainsworth was very brave and held the tarantula!
